Sweden Coil Center uses 3D printers to increase efficiency
Sweden Coil Center AB (SCC) uses custom-made tools, known as coil shaping templates, to achieve the highest level of precision when winding perfectly shaped coils for electrical generators. These tools used to be carved from solid wood due to their complex shape and have traditionally been limited to skilled craftsmen with years of experience. However, as these craftsmen are no longer available, SCC turned to 3D printing expert Sculptur for future solutions.
By using state-of-the-art 3D printing technology, Swedish-based Sculptur managed to recreate the tools using a robot 3D printer, with even higher precision and using less material.
”By creating a digital tool in the computer, we have been able to refine the products. We have managed to reduce weight, the amount of material, and even production time,” says Mario Markovic, site manager at Sculptur.
After two years of development, the second generation of 3D-printed solutions has been brought to the market. The partners have now decided to deepen their cooperation.
”We are very satisfied with the result and happy to be pioneers using 3D printing,” says Johan Öhrner, manager at SCC.
Both Sculptur and SCC are dedicated to creating a circular solution by using materials that can be recycled after use.
The shaping templates are used only once, or a maximum of a few times, because the generators are often custom-made. The old, wooden-based tools sometimes had to be destroyed after usage, creating unnecessary waste. With the help of Sculptur, the future templates will be able to be recycled.

New material from old Volvo and VW bumpers
Together with Volvo Cars, Volkswagen Group, and several entities in the automotive industry, Sculptur has managed to transform obsolete bumpers into design furniture using large-scale 3D technology!
A car consists of about 20% plastic. Every year, around 200,000 end-of-life cars are sent to a scrapyard in Sweden. In addition, approximately 600,000 cars are involved in accidents, which means that car parts must be replaced. All in all, a lot of plastic material from cars is only recycled through energy recovery, ie through incineration where the energy is recovered.
Each piece of furniture is provided with a QR code making it easy to tell the story, but also find information about how to recycle the 100% recyclable furniture.

Design made easy
3D printing gives the world a new way of creating beauty. Design student Annie Hedlund from Oslo Met has created a beautiful standing table during her bachelor thesis at Sculptur. Her task was to come up with a design suitable for weak, recycled materials. The soft shapes make it stronger and by avoiding sharp edges Annie made it possible to use recycled materials that would have been incinerated.

How to reform the furniture industry
Another order of the Reform chair completed! With additive manufacturing, you simply print what you have designed – without using any molds. If you are not satisfied, redesign your CAD and print again. The first product from Sculptur was the REFORM chair. This masterpiece was designed by Jurij Rahimkulov and catches the eye with its beautiful curves.
